Malaysia’s Budget 2027 Allocates RM83 Billion for Development

Accra:The RM83 billion development expenditure allocation under Malaysia's Budget 2027 is a significant component of the RM430 billion five-year development plan outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) for 2026-2030. This budget aims to enhance Malaysia's productive capacity and promote economic growth with a focus on higher-value sectors, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MoF Deputy Undersecretary Rozita Abd Matalib emphasized that Budget 2027 embodies the medium-term strategies of the MADANI Economy and the 13MP by translating them into actionable funding and implementation. The budget prioritizes high-value manufacturing, digital activities, and energy transition projects to achieve these goals.

Rozita stated that the strategy is designed to bolster Malaysia's productive capacity, allowing for sustainable higher-value growth, job creation, and improved living standards. The 13MP aims to elevate economic competitiveness and enhance the well-being of its citizens, with targets of 4.5 to 5.5 percent annual GDP growth and 3.6 percent annual labor productivity growth.

Central to this vision is industry upgrading, guided by the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030) and the National Semiconductor Strategy, which support Malaysia's move into advanced sectors like integrated circuit design and technology development. Rozita also highlighted the importance of Malaysian companies developing intellectual property and participating in international markets.

The budget further stresses the role of digitalization and artificial intelligence in boosting productivity across various sectors. Public capital investments will be supported by private sector involvement through public-private partnerships and investments under the National Energy Transition Roadmap. These initiatives aim to enhance energy security through renewable energy, energy storage, and grid infrastructure development.
