Malaysia’s August Wholesale and Retail Sales Reach RM173 Billion

Rabat:Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade saw a significant rise in sales in August 2026, amounting to RM173 billion. This marks a 10.5 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year, as reported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, The Department of Statistics Malaysia highlighted that the volume index went up by 3.6 percent year-on-year, with all three sub-sectors showing growth. Wholesale trade led the increase, recording sales of RM81.2 billion, which is RM11.5 billion or 16.5 percent higher than the previous year.

Retail trade also experienced growth, with an increase of RM4.4 billion or 6.5 percent, reaching a total of RM71.7 billion. The motor vehicles sub-sector showed a rise as well, expanding by RM0.5 billion or 2.5 percent, resulting in sales of RM20.1 billion.

Collectively, these three sub-sectors contributed RM16.4 billion to the increase in overall sales, with wholesale trade being the largest contributor, followed by retail trade and motor vehicles.
