Malaysia: Malaysia's aerospace, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) and manufacturing sectors have employed more than 35,000 highly skilled workers in 2025, surpassing the target of over 30,000 by 2030 set under the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 (MAIB 2030).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Sim Tze Tzin announced that Malaysia has generated RM32.5 billion in industry revenue, maintaining a positive outlook towards achieving the RM55 billion target by the end of the decade outlined in the blueprint. He highlighted Asia-Pacific's significant growth in the aerospace industry, reinforcing Malaysia's trajectory towards the RM55 billion goal by 2030.
The MAIB 2030 aims to expand Malaysia's global MRO market share from four percent in 2025 to five percent by 2030. It also focuses on strengthening key sub-sectors, including aerospace manufacturing, systems integration, engineering, design services, and education and training.
Base Maintenance Malaysia (BMM), part of SIA Engineering Company's (SIAEC) regional network, plays a crucial role in this growth. BMM provides additional capacity to support hangars in Singapore and the Philippines, servicing both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft for the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. BMM's two-hangar facility, capable of accommodating up to six concurrent aircraft checks, boosts SIAEC's operational resilience and offers customers greater flexibility for their MRO needs.
Sim added that Malaysia's capabilities have garnered recognition from global aerospace leaders like Airbus, Boeing, Collins Aerospace, Safran, and Turkish Aerospace Industries, marking a significant achievement for the nation. He emphasized that SIAEC's choice of Malaysia for its maintenance operations reflects confidence in the country's skilled workforce and robust aerospace ecosystem.
