Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), in collaboration with takaful operators, is intensifying efforts to raise awareness, provide customer guidance, and offer claims support to prepare participants for the 2026/2027 Northeast Monsoon.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MTA aims to improve understanding of flood coverage, provide access to advisory services, and guide affected participants on seeking assistance from their respective operators. This includes disseminating information about coverage scope, additional benefits, exclusions, required documents, and claims procedures.
MTA's Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, emphasized the industry's responsibility to educate participants about their coverage scope before disasters occur and ensure they receive guidance after floods. He stated that the industry is committed to helping participants understand their risks and coverage, enabling them to be better prepared for floods.
The MTA noted that flood-related losses in Malaysia amounted to RM636.9 million in 2025, as reported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). It also highlighted that flood coverage is not automatically included in all takaful plans, urging participants to clarify the scope of benefits and coverage limits with their operators.
Participants are advised to review their coverage for vehicles, homes, and businesses, checking for special perils coverage or flood-related benefits. The association also encouraged participants to contact their takaful operators promptly after flood-related damage or losses to clarify coverage eligibility and documentation requirements.
Keeping digital copies of takaful certificates and operators' contact details is recommended for easy access. Additionally, obtaining photographs and records of damage may facilitate the claims process, prioritizing personal and family safety.
