Malaysian Student Aims to Highlight TVET Skills at WorldSkills Competition 2026

Shanghai:Malaysia's Muhammad Haziq Lailla Zamri is set to demonstrate the capabilities of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students on the international stage at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026, representing the country in the Electrical Installations category.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the 22-year-old from Johor Bahru TVETMARA believes that choosing the TVET pathway has been instrumental in his pursuit of success at the global level. He is currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Competency (Generation) and views the competition as an opportunity to highlight the potential of Malaysia's skilled workforce.

Muhammad Haziq expressed his pride and gratitude for representing Malaysia, stating that his participation demonstrates the country's international capabilities through the skills sector and TVET. He is inspired by his coaches and sees the four-day event, which runs until September 26, as a rigorous test due to the unpredictability of the tasks.

His experience in previous international competitions, including winning a silver medal at WorldSkills Asia Taipei and a bronze at WorldSkills ASEAN Manila in 2025, has prepared him to maintain focus. His interest in the electrical field began in Form Three with a basic wiring programme, and he is now determined to deliver a strong performance in Shanghai.

Muhammad Haziq aims to win a medal at the competition, acknowledging the dream of securing gold but also expressing a realistic approach towards achieving any medal. He is among 22 young Malaysian competitors in 21 skill categories, joining 1,400 skilled professionals from over 65 countries and regions at WSC Shanghai 2026.
