Malaysian Parliament To Debate Motion on Gaza Genocide

Kuala Lumpur:The Malaysian Parliament's Palestine Caucus plans to submit a motion addressing the genocide in Gaza to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker's Office, aiming for it to be debated in the upcoming parliamentary session.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposed motion, led by Caucus Chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, will urge for a lasting ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid. The motion also emphasizes rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians and affirming their right to self-determination. It supports the processes of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, respecting international judicial decisions and orders.

Syed Ibrahim, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, announced these intentions during a press conference at the Parliament, marking the Three-Year Commemoration of the Gaza Genocide. The motion seeks to enhance diplomatic efforts, including scrutinizing military assistance and arms transfers that could violate international law.

The motion further proposes establishing a Malaysian framework for Gaza's recovery, focusing on healthcare, education, child rehabilitation, and reconstruction led by Palestinians. The Caucus emphasizes the need for sufficient time for a substantive debate, encouraging participation from all Members of Parliament.

Additionally, Syed Ibrahim called for coordinated efforts with the government and opposition MPs to finalize and schedule the motion, adhering to the Standing Orders. He also urged public involvement in the upcoming Three-Year Commemoration of the Gaza Genocide event, set to begin at Menara Tabung Haji and proceed to the United States Embassy this Friday.
