Malaysian MPs to Attend Brussels Conference to Protest Israeli Death Penalty Decision

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia will send a cross-party delegation of Members of Parliament to an international conference in Brussels to lodge a formal protest against the Israeli Parliament's move to impose the death penalty by hanging on Palestinian detainees. PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the party has named two representatives, Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, to attend the conference.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that they are awaiting names from other parties, with an overall expectation of six to eight MPs participating in the convention in Brussels. The participation of representatives from various parties, including UMNO and PAS, underscores Malaysia's unity on global humanitarian issues following the Israeli Parliament's controversial decision.

Amirudin emphasized that these representatives will voice the collective opposition of Malaysians against genocide and any form of injustice against Palestinians. He also mentioned the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 mission, which is currently approaching Sicily, Italy, after experiencing delays due to weather conditions.

Amirudin had to temporarily return to Malaysia to attend the State Legislative Assembly sitting after the mission team was stranded in Barcelona because of storm forecasts. He stated that he plans to rejoin the mission after the assembly sitting concludes, as the mission will pass through several key checkpoints, including Greece, Istanbul, and Cyprus.

He expressed his intent to ensure the well-being and safety of all participants on the mission, highlighting the importance of the humanitarian aid mission and its objectives.
