Jakarta: The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta is actively seeking solutions and providing assistance to Malaysian citizens stranded in Indonesia due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has called on the families of the affected individuals to remain patient as the resumption of airline operations will only occur once clearance is granted.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan assured that the stranded Malaysians are safe and the situation is limited to flight disruptions. He explained that the current circumstances make it impossible to arrange charter flights, as all commercial flights have been cancelled. The consular team in Jakarta is committed to providing maximum assistance to those affected.

As of the latest reports, approximately 1,500 Malaysians have been impacted by the cancellation and rescheduling of flights in Jakarta. The ongoing disruption is caused by volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, affecting air travel for the second consecutive day. At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport alone, 243 flights involving 29,619 passengers have been disrupted.

The volcanic ash has impacted eight airports in total, including Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta, Radin Inten II Airport in Lampung, Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, and Budiarto Airport in Tangerang. Additionally, Pondok Cabe Airport in Tangerang Selatan, Taufik Kiemas Airport in Pesisir Barat, Lampung, and Atung Bungsu Airport in Pagar Alam, South Sumatra are also affected, causing significant travel challenges.
