Kuala lumpur: The national contingent for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics is now in the final phase of preparation, with the main focus placed on health and adaptation to Japan’s cold weather, which is currently around 14 degrees Celsius.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chef de Mission (CDM) Mohd Yusri Abdul Ghani emphasized the importance of health and focus as the athletes prepare for their departure to the Land of the Rising Sun early tomorrow morning. The team is scheduled to arrive in Miyoshi, Tokyo, to undergo two weeks of training and acclimatization before the Games commence.
Known as the Summer Deaflympics, the event will take place from November 15 to 26. Despite its name, the weather in Japan is colder than usual, prompting careful preparations, including the inclusion of medical and physiotherapy teams to maintain the athletes’ health.
Mohd Yusri noted that all athletes have passed health checks at the National Sports Institute (ISN) and are in good condition. He also reported that the team remains in high spirits, undeterred by the cold, with some athletes having experience competing in similar conditions abroad, including in Brazil.
In the 2022 Deaflympics, the Malaysian team achieved success by securing two gold medals in the women’s doubles badminton event and the women’s team bowling event, showcasing their competitive prowess on the international stage.
