Kuala lumpur: For the first time, Malaysia will host the International Cheerleading Union (ICU) Asian Cheerleading Championships from October 16 to 18 next year. The President of the Cheerleading Association and Register of Malaysia (CHARM), Lim Chin Hau, announced the event, highlighting the improved performance of the national cheerleading squad in previous competitions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, several Asian countries have expressed interest in participating in the championships, which will feature categories based on age groups. Lim Chin Hau noted that previously, Malaysia had limited participation, sending only one or two teams to the championships. However, the upcoming event aims to expand participation, preparing Malaysia to better understand and compete against other teams.
Lim Chin Hau also mentioned that CHARM has listed seven teams to represent Malaysia at the upcoming Asian Cheerleading Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 14 and 15. This marks the largest number of teams Malaysia has sent, providing them exposure in preparation for hosting the event. The target is to achieve a top-three finish in each category, acknowledging the strong competition from other countries.
