Malaysia: Malaysia and Thailand are enhancing their border security cooperation through both government-to-government (G2G) and police-to-police (P2P) platforms, focusing on addressing threats posed by cross-border crime.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail emphasized that the G2G cooperation is executed via the Malaysia-Thailand Border Security Management Committee, which convenes biannually to tackle security concerns. The P2P collaboration involves Malaysian states that share borders with Thailand-Perlis, Kedah, and Kelantan-ensuring that security measures are continuously prioritized.

"This police cooperation usually involves three things: intelligence sharing, capacity building, and joint operations, if necessary," Saifuddin noted during a discussion with reporters. This statement followed his visit to the home of the late Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Rahim in Kampung Hutan Pasir, Ketereh, who recently died from an electric shock incident in Beaufort, Sabah.

Saifuddin further mentioned that border security issues were a topic of discussion in a recent official meeting with his Thai counterpart. This dialogue also took place during a visit by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to Malaysia. He highlighted the sensitivity of managing the border area, citing the importance of sovereignty, the movement of people, and cross-border crime elements, all of which are being closely monitored.

"We do not resolve it through back-and-forth media statements, but rather through appropriate platforms and forums in an orderly manner as neighbouring countries," Saifuddin added, underscoring the structured approach taken by both nations in addressing these concerns.
