Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has established two primary goals for the 2026 Malaysia Cleanup Day (HCM): to mobilize 200,000 participants and gather 28 tonnes of recyclable materials. These objectives aim to set new records in the Malaysia Book of Records during the nationwide event on September 26.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Nga Kor Ming announced that to expand this year's participation, KPKT will work alongside the Ministry of Education. This collaboration will involve students from 10,000 schools, recognizing their involvement in HCM as part of the Physical Activity, Sports and Co-Curricular Assessment (PAJSK). Nga emphasized the importance of engaging the younger generation to foster a culture of cleanliness and shared responsibility.

The minister also highlighted that the current year's HCM has garnered support from 21 strategic partners, including companies in the cleaning sector, industry associations, government-linked companies, multinational corporations, retail companies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). With Malaysia's solid waste generation projected to rise from 14.5 million tonnes in 2024 to 17 million tonnes by 2035, the program's significance continues to grow.

Nga noted that a clean environment is crucial, not only as a reflection of the country's development but also in its impact on public health, citizens' well-being, and environmental sustainability. The 2026 National HCM celebration will take place at Pasar Taman Seri Gombak in Batu Caves on September 26.

The event will feature activities such as public area clean-up campaigns, recycling initiatives, exhibitions, and community awareness programs. The public is encouraged to participate in HCM 2026 by organizing clean-up activities in their homes, shops, offices, or local areas.
