Kuala lumpur: Malaysia will dispatch a cross-party delegation of Members of Parliament to an international conference in Brussels to formally protest the Israeli Parliament's decision to impose the death penalty by hanging on Palestinian detainees.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the party has selected Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik as representatives for the conference.
The delegation is expected to consist of six to eight MPs from various parties, including UMNO and PAS, showcasing Malaysia's unified stance on global humanitarian issues. This comes in response to the Israeli Parliament's recent decision to enforce the death penalty without the possibility of appeal for Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks. Amirudin emphasized that the Malaysian representatives would convey the nation's collective opposition to what is perceived as genocide and injustice against Palestinians.
Amirudin also provided updates on the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 mission, a humanitarian aid initiative currently en route to Sicily, Italy, after experiencing delays due to adverse weather conditions. The mission was temporarily halted in Barcelona for two days, awaiting safer wind conditions for travel. Amirudin, who returned to Malaysia for a State Legislative Assembly sitting, plans to rejoin the mission after the assembly concludes.
The mission's journey includes key checkpoints such as Greece, Istanbul, and Cyprus. Amirudin expressed his intention to assess possible routes and ensure the well-being of all participants.
