Malaysia Sees Increase in International Visitors in 2026

Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia has recorded 28.8 million international visitors from January to August 2026, marking a 1.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tourism Malaysia's deputy director-general (promotion) Mohd Akbal Setia highlighted the positive trend as a testament to Malaysia's appeal as a tourism destination and the significance of international tourism partnerships. He emphasized the relevance of this growth as the country advances its industry under the Visit Malaysia 2026-2027 campaign.

Mohd Akbal conveyed these remarks on behalf of Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing during the opening of the International Tourism, Arts and Culture Exhibition and Conference (INTACT) 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. He noted that tourism significantly contributes to Malaysia's economy, accounting for over 15 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) and benefiting a wide range of sectors from hotels to local artisans.

The INTACT event has seen strong participation, with 154 exhibitors from 35 countries, indicating its growing influence. Mohd Akbal pointed out that the platform is crucial for expanding joint promotions and creating new tourism experiences that benefit both destinations and local communities. He encouraged exhibitors and participants to leverage the event for business connections and collaborative opportunities.
