Malaysia Prepares for COP31 with Comprehensive National Climate Effort

Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia is intensifying its climate action initiatives in preparation for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), uniting various sectors including government, industry, academia, and civil society in a nationwide effort.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) announced that this collective effort is exemplified by the Malaysia Pavilion, which was soft-launched by Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup during the Road to Antalya: Climate Change Forum (CCF) 2026 held in Kuala Lumpur.

The inauguration by Arthur signifies a significant milestone in Malaysia's COP31 preparations set to occur in Antalya, Turkey, from November 9 to 20. The Malaysia Pavilion, themed 'Climate Action Now: Driving Resilient Growth,' aims to highlight the country's climate action and sustainability initiatives at COP31, while fostering partnerships and dialogues on sustainable growth.

The Malaysia Pavilion, led by NRES and executed by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), receives support through contributions from the private sector and collaborations with government bodies, corporations, academia, and NGOs. This broad-based support underscores Malaysia's comprehensive approach to advancing its climate agenda ahead of COP31.

The recent forum brought together representatives from government, industry, and international partners to discuss Malaysia's climate goals and COP31 priorities, emphasizing the Pavilion as a key platform for climate action and collaboration. The event featured a panel discussion involving NRES, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), and diplomatic representatives from Turkey and Brazil, offering a diverse range of perspectives on Malaysia's climate ambitions.

Discussions focused on transitioning from commitments to practical implementation, government-industry cooperation, energy transition opportunities, and Malaysia's role in the global climate landscape. The Road to Antalya event highlighted seven thematic clusters guiding the Malaysia Pavilion's program, emphasizing collaboration across key areas of Malaysia's climate and sustainable development agenda.

As Malaysia advances towards COP31, the NRES stated that the Malaysia Pavilion will continue to showcase national progress, strengthen international partnerships, and promote discussions on practical climate action and resilient growth.
