Malaysia Matches Best-Ever Gold Medal Haul at Asian Games

Nagoya:Malaysia matched its best-ever gold medal haul at the Asian Games during the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games by securing three golds on Day 14, bringing its total to nine. The team now has two opportunities remaining to set a new record.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the gold medals were won by Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang in the men's keirin and the Malaysian women's and men's squash teams in their respective team events. This achievement equals the nine gold medals Malaysia won at the Guangzhou 2010 edition.

Malaysia's final chances to set a new gold medal record at the Games will come in the men's doubles padel and men's hockey finals tomorrow. Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus will compete in the men's padel final, a sport making its Asian Games debut. Meanwhile, the Speedy Tigers will face defending champions India in the men's hockey gold medal match.

The recent team squash victories, alongside individual titles by S. Sivasangari and Ng Eain Yow, raise Malaysia's total squash golds to four at these Games. For Azizulhasni, the keirin gold caps his final Asian Games appearance, concluding with a career tally of three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

Securing a victory in either of the forthcoming finals would set a new record for Malaysia's gold medal count at the Games before the closing ceremony on Sunday.
