Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has initiated an anti-dumping duty investigation concerning imports of flat rolled products of other alloy and non-alloy steel, plated or coated with aluminium and zinc, originating or exported from China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the investigation was prompted by a petition received on June 19 from NS Bluescope Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a domestic producer, requesting an anti-dumping duty investigation. The petition claimed that the imports from the specified countries were being sold at prices significantly lower than their domestic prices, causing material injury to the local industry.

MITI stated that after reviewing the petition's evidence of dumping, injury, and causal links, a decision was made to initiate the investigation under Section 20 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993 and Regulation 7 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Regulations 1994. The Period of Injury Determination and Period of Investigation have been defined for three years, covering January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2025.

The ministry mentioned that a preliminary determination is expected within 120 days from the initiation date. Should the determination be affirmative, a provisional anti-dumping duty will be imposed to prevent further harm to the domestic industry. MITI has called for relevant interested parties to submit their views, questionnaire responses, and supporting evidence electronically by August 17, 2026, through the Trade Remedies Investigation Management System.
