Malaysia Education Blueprint 2026-2036 To Tackle Teachers’ Workload

Kuala lumpur: The Education Ministry (MOE) remains committed to implementing various initiatives to address teachers' workload, as outlined in the Malaysia Education Blueprint (RPM) 2026-2035. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that the RPM 2026-2035 prioritizes ensuring teachers can fully concentrate on teaching and learning (PdP).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the blueprint introduces the 80:20 policy, which allocates 80 percent of subject teachers' time to activities related to PdP, while the remaining 20 percent is for non-teaching tasks. This policy aims to alleviate the burden on teachers, allowing them to focus more on their primary role of educating students.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek highlighted that teacher well-being is affected by several factors, including workload beyond core responsibilities, work environment, emotional aspects, and opportunities for professional development. She emphasized the importance of addressing these factors to improve the overall welfare of teachers.

Since 2023, several measures have been introduced to reduce teachers' workload. Among these are the appointment of 20,997 volunteers for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, the implementation of the Malaysia Short-Term Employment Programme (MySTEP) for teacher assistants, and the hiring of full-time hostel wardens' assistants. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to support teachers and enhance the education system in Malaysia.
