Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia, as a trading nation, is ready to open new opportunities and pathways with several emerging countries, including in Africa and Latin America, which will help expand its scope of trade. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the current changes in the world’s geopolitical landscape require adjustments in international relation strategies.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the complexities and uncertain geopolitical pressures impacting global trade dynamics. He specifically mentioned the leadership of United States President Donald Trump, responses from Europe and China, and ongoing conflicts in Gaza (Palestine) and Ukraine as significant factors necessitating strategic adjustments in Malaysia’s international relations.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar were also present during the announcement. Anwar emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to a neutral policy, maintaining good relations globally while establishing ties with emerging economies.
The retreat further discussed the implementation and strengthening of existing policies. The two-day event, which commenced yesterday, aimed to outline the country’s direction, evaluate plans, and improve Cabinet ministers’ performance by incorporating public feedback and criticisms.
