Malaysia and Singapore Aim to Finalise Cross-Border RTS Link Laws by June 30

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to finalise their respective domestic laws governing the cross-border operations of the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link by June 30. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah announced that the timeline ensures the legislation is ready for full enforcement by September 30.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the timeline was agreed upon in a supplementary agreement as part of the process to operationalise the RTS Link, finalised during the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders' Retreat on December 4 last year. The government is confident that the powers provided under the Bill will safeguard national sovereignty and interests, including protection for Malaysian enforcement officers stationed in Singapore at Woodlands North Station.

The Bill aims to enable monitoring and enforcement for the operation of the RTS Link, which connects Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North Station in Singapore, without affecting existing laws. Deputy Speaker Alice Lau Kiong Yieng stated that the debate on the Bill will begin tomorrow.
