Malaysia and Indonesia Settle for Goalless Draw in ASEAN Cup Clash

Jakarta:Interim head coach Tan Cheng Hoe praised Malaysia's discipline and character after Harimau Malaya held hosts Indonesia to a goalless draw in their FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 Division 1 Group A clash at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Cheng Hoe expressed satisfaction with the result, noting Malaysia's missed opportunities to secure a win on Indonesian soil. He acknowledged the need for improvement but appreciated the competitive atmosphere and the challenge posed by the Indonesian team.

Cheng Hoe highlighted that his team controlled the game better in the second half and maintained composure despite Indonesia being reduced to 10 men after Thom Haye was sent off following a VAR review in the 37th minute. He commended his players for staying calm and creating scoring chances.

Meanwhile, Indonesia head coach John Herdman praised the home supporters for their enthusiastic presence, especially in the final 20 minutes of the match. He emphasized the importance of fan support in building team spirit and urged spectators to attend Indonesia's final group match against Bangladesh.

Herdman expressed pride in his players' commitment and looked forward to the upcoming match against Bangladesh. He remarked that Malaysia will face Singapore, which poses a tougher challenge, while Indonesia is excited for their game against Bangladesh.

Malaysia currently leads Group A on four points, level with second-placed Indonesia but ahead on goal difference. Singapore is third with three points, and Bangladesh remains at the bottom without a point. Malaysia will conclude their group campaign against Singapore at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung, while Indonesia faces Bangladesh at GBK on the same day.
