Kuala Lumpur:Malaysia and Egypt are set to hold bilateral talks tomorrow to assess the progress in their cooperative efforts and share perspectives on both regional and international matters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced in a Facebook post that he will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The meeting is expected to include the exchange of several memoranda of understanding between the two nations.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared that following the presentation of the Fifth MADANI Budget, he went straight to the Bunga Raya Complex at Kuala Lumpur International Airport to personally welcome President El-Sisi, who is visiting Malaysia at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
The Foreign Ministry reported that President El-Sisi is accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior Egyptian officials during his visit, marking his first state visit to Malaysia since becoming president in June 2014.
Malaysia and Egypt commenced diplomatic relations in 1959. By 2025, Egypt had become Malaysia's seventh-largest trading partner among African countries. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached RM3.08 billion (US$0.72 billion), with Malaysian exports to Egypt accounting for RM2.55 billion (US$0.60 billion) and imports from Egypt totaling RM530 million (US$120 million).
From January to August 2026, the total trade between Malaysia and Egypt increased by 74.7 percent, amounting to RM3.49 billion (US$870 million).
