Kuala lumpur: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) will remain vigilant and is working closely with the relevant parties to ensure smooth flight operations amid the current unpredictable weather. Group managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said flight operations at airports under its management have been only minimally affected.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, although there have been slight delays due to the prolonged rainy weather, operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as well as other airports are being managed smoothly. This was stated by Izani after attending the welcome ceremony for the inaugural Spring Airlines (9C) flight from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur at KLIA Terminal 2 (T2).
China’s Spring Airlines Flight 9C6524, carrying nearly 180 passengers, then took off from KLIA T2 and flew to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, marking the official resumption of Spring Airlines’ direct flight route between Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai.
A joint statement by MAHB and the airline noted that the route operates daily, with a one-way flight time of about five hours and 20 minutes, serving as an efficient aerial ribbon that closely connects Malaysia’s tropical environment with the urban landscape of Shanghai, China.
Meanwhile, Izani mentioned that the current unpredictable weather is not expected to impact MAHB’s facilities or airports, despite several recent technical issues.
Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) warned that rare tropical storm Senyar could bring heavy rain, strong winds, and severe weather conditions that may affect flight operations from Nov 27-29, 2025.
On a separate matter, Izani stated that MAHB is intensifying efforts to prepare for the expected influx of tourists for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
‘Next Monday, I will have a meeting with all relevant industries on the planning and preparations for VM2026. We at MAHB are prepared for VM2026. We are expending much effort in the hope of achieving the government’s target of 47 million foreign tourists in 2026,’ he said.
He added that KLIA is expected to see a passenger volume of 64 million by the end of 2025, higher than the 62 million passengers initially projected.
