Kuala lumpur: Malaysia is set to bolster its collaboration with Tuniu, a prominent online travel agency in China, as part of its strategy to remain a preferred destination for Chinese tourists. This initiative was announced by Malaysia's Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, following discussions with Tuniu executives during his recent working visit to Shanghai.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the discussions primarily focused on increasing the influx of Chinese tourists to Malaysia, capitalizing on China's vast outbound tourism market. Tuniu acknowledged Malaysia's appeal, highlighting its natural beauty, unique culture, diverse culinary offerings, and engaging experiences. However, Tuniu also noted that many potential tourists in China lack familiarity with Malaysia, underscoring the need for enhanced exposure.
In the past year, Tourism Malaysia and Tuniu have collaborated on various initiatives, including familiarization trips with influencers, live-streaming sessions, and online content campaigns, which have been well-received. Looking forward, Tiong emphasized a shift towards content-driven marketing efforts, moving away from traditional brochures and advertisements. The focus will be on live-streaming sessions, on-location filming, short videos, and themed campaigns that showcase authentic Malaysian experiences.
Tiong highlighted the potential of Malaysia's cuisine as a major attraction, suggesting the use of live cooking streams and food-themed promotions across Chinese cities to entice tourists. Additionally, discussions covered simplifying the booking process on Tuniu's platform by enhancing Malaysia's dedicated section and offering special packages that combine flights with curated tourism products.
The minister urged Tourism Malaysia to continue its close collaboration with Tuniu to develop these concepts into concrete programs, aiming to attract more Chinese visitors to appreciate Malaysia's diversity, hospitality, and everyday appeal.
