Pasir mas: Malaysia's renewable energy (RE) installed capacity reached nearly 32% as of June, signifying that the nation is well on its path to achieving a 35% target by 2030, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. This progress is a testament to the country's efforts in advancing its energy transition agenda, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah highlighted that Malaysia had already achieved a 31% RE installed capacity by December 2025, meeting government expectations. The next significant milestones are set at 35% by 2030 and 70% by 2050. During his speech at the launch of the Large-Scale Solar Project (LSS5), Fadillah emphasized that energy transition is a strategic necessity for ensuring energy security, economic resilience, and commitment to global climate change goals.
Fadillah, who also serves as the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), affirmed the government's dedication to a balanced energy transition approach, which is rooted in energy security, cost affordability, and sustainability. He noted that the LSS5 project in Pasir Mas is an indicator of investor confidence and demonstrates strong collaboration between the Federal and state governments and the private sector in fostering a sustainable low-carbon economy.
The LSS5 initiative is expected to contribute to the national electricity supply, create job opportunities, stimulate the local economy, and benefit communities in Pasir Mas and Kelantan. Fadillah pointed out Kelantan's vast potential for increasing its renewable energy capacity, particularly in solar power, due to its suitable land, supportive state government, and active private sector involvement. He encouraged local stakeholders to engage with the Solar ATAP Programme to expand rooftop solar usage.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud stated that the LSS5 project, launched in Kampung Serongga, sets a benchmark for renewable energy development in the state and could attract further quality investments. He emphasized that the project's success would establish Kelantan as a leading destination for investments focused on sustainability, innovation, and green technology.
Mohd Nassuruddin also reiterated the state government's commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment that aligns with its vision to position Kelantan as a competitive state for high-impact investments. He expressed optimism that the LSS5 project would prioritize safety, environmental protection, and community relationships, demonstrating investor confidence in Kelantan's potential as a leader in sustainable economic development.
