Aichi-Nagoya:The Malaysian contingent has successfully reached its six-gold target at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with national squash players Ng Eain Yow and S. Sivasangari defending their men's and women's singles titles, respectively.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this achievement marked a triumphant conclusion to Malaysia's ninth day of competition at the quadrennial sporting event. The double victory in squash fulfilled the pre-Games gold-medal target set by the national contingent.

The spotlight was also shared with other sports, particularly diving, which contributed two medals to Malaysia's tally. Enrique Harrold and Elvis Priestly secured silver in the men's synchronised 10-metre platform with 377.52 points at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. Ong Ker Ying and Lee Yiat Qing added a bronze in the women's synchronised 3m springboard with 243.72 points. This followed another bronze medal in the men's synchronised 3m springboard by Yong Rui Jie and Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohd Nazim.

In athletics, Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee recorded a season-best time of 20.89 seconds, finishing sixth in the men's 200m final. The 19-year-old sprinter made history as the first Malaysian in 44 years to qualify for the Asian Games final in this event.

In badminton, the duo of Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah ensured at least a bronze medal for Malaysia by advancing to the women's doubles semi-finals, breaking a 12-year drought for the country in this event. However, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani were eliminated in the men's doubles quarter-finals.

These achievements underscore the breadth of Malaysia's success across various sports, beyond the two squash golds that met the initial target. As the Games approach their conclusion on October 4, Malaysian athletes aim to further increase the overall medal tally.
