Major Transport Initiatives Announced in 2027 Budget

Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced significant transportation initiatives as part of the 2027 budget, which includes benefits for KTM Komuter users and schoolchildren.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MYKOMUTER50 incentive is set to benefit around 40,000 KTM Komuter users, potentially saving them up to RM160 a month. Additionally, free passes will be provided to 360,000 schoolchildren, individuals with disabilities, and children under six. The My50 facility will continue to serve Prasarana bus and rail users in the Klang Valley.

To address train breakdowns and service disruptions, Prasarana plans to invest over RM3.4 billion for comprehensive rehabilitation of its rail services. The government will also acquire 42 new train sets for ETS and KTM Komuter services.

Anwar announced that the ECRL Phase 1, running from Kota Bharu to the Gombak Integrated Terminal, is expected to start operations this December. There is an agreement between Malaysia and China to extend the line to Rantau Panjang. A bus station will be constructed at the Kota Bharu ECRL station to benefit the people of Kelantan, with RM270 million allocated to improve stage bus services in major cities and to link 15 East Coast stations ahead of ECRL operations.

Moreover, the government, in collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, will allocate RM1.1 billion to upgrade roads in port areas and airports in Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Tawau, Sandakan, and Penang, as well as the Long Banga and Ba'Kelalan STOLports in Sarawak.
