Kuala Lumpur: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has dedicated RM1.1 million to aid 5,500 asnaf, or eligible tithe recipients, through its Nur Ramadan programme.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this initiative was announced by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. The minister emphasized that this effort represents a significant act of worship and aligns with the principles of social justice, aiming to narrow the poverty gap and address social inequalities between affluent and impoverished communities.
Dr Zaliha highlighted the collective duty to assist those facing poverty, particularly in urban areas, by providing them with necessary resources and opportunities to overcome their difficulties. During the Federal Territories Nur Ramadan programme event, she personally distributed RM200 cash aid to 300 selected recipients in Putrajaya. Furthermore, she presented a special contribution of RM5,000 on behalf of the Federal Territories Department to Surau Abdul Rahman Auf in Presint 11 to facilitate its facility improvements.
The event was also attended by other notable figures, including Federal Territories director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Halim and Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.
