Kuala Lumpur: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has successfully distributed RM314,879,762.44 in zakat funds to the asnaf group as of April 21.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAIWP chairman Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer stated that the distribution was executed through various initiatives and aid clusters across Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan. These efforts included the welfare aid cluster, education aid cluster, and the Wakalah programme, all designed to enhance the quality of life and opportunities for the asnaf community.
Earlier today, MAIWP organized the Jalinan Aidilfitri Bersama Asnaf event at the Dewan Perdana Felda, hosting 600 asnaf individuals, including children. The event was graced by the presence of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, who highlighted the significant role of community support in enabling MAIWP’s extensive assistance programs. He emphasized that the transparent and efficient zakat ecosystem serves as a vital contributor to social justice and the well-being of the urban population.
During the ceremony, MAIWP provided a special contribution of RM200 and souvenirs worth RM120 to 400 asnaf recipients. Additionally, 200 children received duit raya of RM50 each, with the total distribution amounting to RM138,000 in zakat funds. The event was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan and Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee.
