Bailey Bridge To Temporarily Replace Collapsed Sg Liat Bridge By April 30

Felda Sungai Klah: The Bailey bridge, which will temporarily replace the collapsed Sungai Liat Bridge, is expected to be operational by April 30, said Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. He mentioned that prior to the bridge’s construction, the road leading to it must be repaired. The construction of the 46-metre-long bridge is slated to begin tomorrow and is anticipated to be completed by April 27.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Deputy Works Minister expressed hope that the bridge would be completed as scheduled to accommodate daily commuters in the area. He communicated this during a visit to the collapse site at Felda Sungai Klah, accompanied by Behrang assemblyman Salina Samsudin. The collapse, which occurred on April 20, severed access to Felda Residence Hot Spring, Kampung Tisong, and the Buyong Mas Sanctuary Campsite, leaving 136 individuals stranded, including 81 students from a local polytechnic.

State executive councillor for Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport, Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, announced that the Bailey bridge will serve as a temporary solution. Meanwhile, Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan revealed that the construction of a permanent bridge at the location is estimated to cost approximately RM3 million.

Salina Samsudin expressed her hopes for the timely completion of the bridge, as residents currently rely on an alternative route to reach Sungkai town. The 1.7-kilometre detour through an oil palm plantation is accessible only to those with four-wheel drive vehicles.
