Sungai pinang: The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) is strengthening al-Quran tahfiz education through the development of the Darul Quran MAIK (Female Campus) in Sungai Pinang here. MAIK president Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said the campus was a strategic step to expand tahfiz education opportunities for female students amid growing demand for such programmes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the campus, first established in 2023, could now accommodate up to 60 students, compared with 30 at the previous campus, and was equipped with suitable learning facilities and infrastructure. "This new campus is also equipped with comprehensive learning facilities and infrastructure," he said when speaking at the officiating ceremony of the Darul Quran MAIK (Female Campus) here today.

The ceremony was officiated by the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra, while the Raja Perempuan of Kelantan Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid, was also in attendance. Tengku Mohamad Rizam said the campus development was also supported through waqf (endowment) contributions, including land and a building donated by Md. Rasid Mohammad, as well as waqf benefits amounting to RM296,180 from Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) for the provision of Darul Quran MAIK assets.

He said through collaboration with Darul Quran and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the institution offered an accredited Diploma in Tahfiz al-Quran and al-Qiraat programme that complied with Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) accreditation standards. "This year as well, Darul Quran MAIK successfully produced nine female alumni from the first cohort of the Female Campus," he said.
