MAHB Focuses on Sustainable Growth in Airport Expansion and Operations

Perth: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is committed to balancing business growth with sustainability as it expands its airport network and attracts new airlines.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAHB senior general manager, strategy, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin, emphasized the company’s focus on optimizing terminal efficiency across its 39 managed airports, which include five international, 17 domestic, and 17 short take-off and landing airports.

Megat Ardian explained that the company’s master plan, initially developed during the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, has undergone revisions to accommodate shifting projections and expansion plans. He highlighted that Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has a specific master plan focused on streamlining passenger processing to unlock capacity, thereby delaying major expansions while prioritizing asset replacements.

MAHB’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated by initiatives aimed at decarbonizing airport operations. These include replacing outdated assets with energy-efficient alternatives, transitioning to electric vehicles for ground handling, and implementing targeted carbon reduction plans. The focus on waste management, rainwater harvesting, solar panel installations, and electrification of ground services is tailored to each airport to ensure effective carbon reductions across the network.

Routes Asia, a premier aviation event held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, served as a platform for over 900 delegates, including representatives from airlines, airports, and tourism authorities, to engage in discussions and explore new air service opportunities. The event featured over 3,000 face-to-face meetings and conference sessions led by international experts, providing insights into best practices in aviation and tourism.
