Kuala Lumpur:Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad visited the grave of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, at Pusara Negara, four days after her passing. Accompanied by family members, Mahathir arrived at 11.05 am, drawing the attention of around 200 visitors who were also present to pay their respects.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mahathir spent approximately 20 minutes at the grave, during which time he appeared deeply moved and shed tears as he remembered his wife of over seventy years. Visitors respectfully gave him space and privacy during his visit.
The couple's eldest child, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, had visited her mother's grave earlier. Among those present to pay their respects were former national badminton player Datuk Seri Dr Lee Chong Wei, singer Datuk Ramli Sarip, and Putrajaya Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.
Lee Chong Wei spoke to reporters about Siti Hasmah's unwavering support for athletes. He recalled her encouragement in both victory and defeat, stating, "When we won, she would send us congratulatory messages. But when we lost and needed support even more, she never gave up on us. She would call or send a message saying that 'It's okay, you've tried your best, you played very well, don't give up, keep going.' That is something I will never forget."
