Gambang:The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into the financial losses experienced by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd in 2023. This investigation includes examining the development of a 50-megawatt solar project in Gambang, Pahang, where a payment of RM42 million was made for purposes unrelated to the project and without the approval of the Board of Directors.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MACC stressed that the investigation is still ongoing due to its complexity, involving technical aspects and awaiting further instructions from the prosecution. To ensure a thorough investigation, the MACC will also look into other relevant issues, including governance weaknesses highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The MACC expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister's concerns and determination to address the governance shortcomings that led to the losses suffered by UiTM Holdings. MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, with a commitment to completing it independently and fairly as soon as possible.

Prime Minister Anwar has called for Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) to reassess the governance and management structure of UiTM Holdings. He emphasized that ordinary weaknesses should be addressed through improvements or officer replacements, but firm action must be taken if any wrongdoing is confirmed to maintain good governance within Bumiputera agencies.
