Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has established a special team to review the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), which was made public yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the team is led by MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar. The team will examine any legal issues involving possible elements of corruption, misappropriation, document falsification, abuse of power, or money laundering under the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694), the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA) (Act 613), or related offences.

MACC emphasized its commitment to thoroughly reviewing every issue raised in the report. Should any breach of the law be identified, the commission has vowed to take firm action regardless of the position or background of those involved. The MACC reiterated its dedication to upholding the principles of the rule of law, accountability, and integrity in carrying out its responsibilities, aligning with efforts to strengthen national governance without interference from any party.

Furthermore, MACC has urged the public to refrain from speculating on any issues until the review is completed. The TH RCI report, uploaded on the official portal of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) yesterday, recommended a forensic audit to examine past investment decisions that resulted in a significant decline in TH's asset value. The report, which scrutinized TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020, also identified several problematic investments requiring further forensic audit. The RCI found that there were suspicious transactions and concealment of information.
