Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) announced its plan to establish a minimum of two new infertility clinics across Malaysia each year, as reported in the Dewan Negara today. This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of subfertility services for married couples, particularly those from lower-income backgrounds.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Lim Hui Ying highlighted that the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) currently operates four main zonal clinics in Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Kuching. These facilities provide fertility treatment services to various regions, while additional support is available in Sabah through three LPPKN Nur Sejahtera Clinics located in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau.

Lim further explained that the BUAI Programme offers eligible couples in Sabah intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatments through a public-private partnership with selected private fertility facilities. The programme consists of two key initiatives: subsidies for treatment fees, including medication and procedures, and advocacy programmes designed to enhance participants' understanding and knowledge.

In terms of achievements, the programme, which began in Sabah in 2025, has already surpassed expectations. Lim reported that 2,641 couples have benefited from treatment subsidies and advocacy initiatives, exceeding the original target of 1,700 couples.
