Kuala Lampur:The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that it did not serve an asset declaration notice on the 12-year-old son of former Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated that reports claiming the agency had served the notice to the child and required his presence were incorrect. The MACC chose not to serve the notice to Saravanan's son.
Abd Halim explained that although the law does not define an age category for the term 'relative or associate', the MACC used its discretion and decided against involving the child. He emphasized that there was no requirement for the child to be physically present at the MACC headquarters, suggesting that the presence of the children was likely due to practical reasons related to their parents.
On Monday, Saravanan, along with his wife and two children, visited the MACC headquarters to receive the notice. Abd Halim noted that the asset declaration notice was issued under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009, with a standard 30-day compliance period, which can be extended if justified.
The notice is part of an investigation into Saravanan, who faces charges of accepting bribes amounting to nearly RM1.09 million related to the approval of foreign worker quotas for a company.
