Kuala lumpur: The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has directed Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) to submit a comprehensive report immediately following yesterday's LRT train derailment near Chan Sow Lin station here.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, APAD said the report would be examined in detail before interviews and further investigations are conducted to determine the factors that contributed to the incident. The agency's investigation aims to establish whether there were elements of non-compliance, negligence, or breaches of operating license conditions.
APAD stated that, in line with the directive issued by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, an investigation paper has been opened to conduct a thorough probe into the incident. The investigation will scrutinize compliance with standard operating procedures, asset maintenance, safety systems, and train operations.
APAD has expressed that it views the incident seriously and has already conducted site inspections to assess the initial situation and ensure immediate action by the operator. The first inspection was led by APAD director-general Ahmad Radhi Maarof with representatives from the Rail Enforcement and Rail Planning divisions, while the second inspection involved representatives from the Transport Ministry (MOT).
The second site inspection aimed to review the initial progress of the investigation, the level of operational safety, and the follow-up measures that need to be implemented by the operator. APAD stressed that passenger safety, the reliability of the rail system, and the integrity of public transport services cannot be compromised.
APAD has assured that the investigation will be carried out independently, transparently, and professionally, with appropriate action taken in accordance with existing legal provisions. If the operator is found to have breached license conditions, enforcement action may be taken under Section 101 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 [Act 715].
The investigation will also cover elements of negligence under Section 202 and Section 128 of Act 715, including actions against any individual found to have failed in their responsibilities or acted negligently, thereby compromising rail operational safety. APAD will continue to work closely with MOT and relevant agencies to ensure safety standards and public confidence in the rail public transport system are maintained.
The derailment of a train on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line near Chan Sow Lin station yesterday morning was due to a faulty track switch, causing service disruptions. Fortunately, all 25 passengers were evacuated safely and were unharmed.
