Kangar:A 56-year-old lorry driver has been remanded for four days to assist in investigations regarding an alleged assault on his wife at their home in Kampung Permatang Pauh, Simpang Empat, on September 15.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the arrest followed a police report lodged by the man's 49-year-old wife. The incident occurred during an argument around 9:30 pm when the man allegedly slapped his wife on the left cheek, headbutted her, pushed her onto a sofa, and attempted to strangle her. The wife sustained bruises on her abdomen.

The dispute reportedly began when the wife advised her husband not to go out at night, suspecting an affair with another woman. Marital problems had persisted for two years after she discovered messages between her husband and an unidentified woman on Facebook. Confrontations about the alleged affair led to multiple instances of violence, including an occasion where the suspect allegedly beat her until she lost consciousness.

Police Chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop stated that the victim has been issued a Pol 59 medical examination form and is receiving treatment at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
