Singapore: The Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery will hold its inaugural special exhibition, Picasso and Lin Xiang Xiong: A Dialogue Across Time, which is an exhibition that explores the universal theme of peace through the works of two visionary artists from different eras.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the exhibition, running from today until March 31, 2026, showcases over 60 works by Pablo Picasso, including lithographs, photolithographs, posters, prints, and silk-screen prints, alongside more than 300 paintings by Professor Lin Xiang Xiong.
The gallery's statement highlighted that Picasso, a prominent artist of the 20th century, witnessed two world wars, the Spanish Civil War, and the early Cold War. His art is described as a response to violence and human suffering, functioning as a public voice against war. Picasso's work frequently incorporates symbols such as doves, bouquets, and human faces, conveying messages of hope and dignity.
The statement also noted that Lin Xiang Xiong's artworks, extending from the late 20th century to the present, address ongoing global issues like ethnic conflict, regional wars, refugee crises, and humanitarian challenges. According to the statement, his works challenge viewers to understand that peace is an ongoing responsibility.
Lin Xiang Xiong explained that Picasso's chosen works were not meant for private collections but were intended to circulate within society, embodying the spirit of 'Art for Peace'. He emphasized that art serves as a platform for social dialogue, with the exhibition underscoring that peace is a continuous global duty rather than a historical accomplishment.
Visitors to the exhibition can engage with a visual archive depicting how peace has been imagined and communicated over time. Lin stated that selecting Picasso was about acknowledging his example of public responsibility during extreme conflicts, highlighting the artist's consistent and powerful responses, which form the foundation of the exhibition.
