Lenggong Geopark To Expand Geoschool Module To Empower Education And Community

Bangkok: Lenggong Geopark is targeting three more schools to learn the 'Geoschool Module' to strengthen community development and education elements in the geopark ecosystem in this district. Lenggong Geopark Management Geocommunity chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said that currently there is one school undergoing the module, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Raban.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Anuar stated, "We already have a Geoschool for the development of the Geopark involving school students. We already have one primary school and we hope to build two or three more that will also involve secondary schools." He highlighted this as a significant step in supporting the area's development, alongside the creation of the Lenggong Community Centre by Think City in collaboration with the Lenggong District Council.

Shamsul Anuar, who is also the Member of Parliament for Lenggong, emphasized that the geopark's focus extends beyond education to include the development of local entrepreneurship through the Geo-Entrepreneur programme. This initiative aims to boost local businesses, especially in handicrafts, weaving, and community-based products.

He elaborated, "We are also planning a Geo-Entrepreneur, to assist entrepreneurs to develop products as well. I hope Think City can help promote the place so that tourists can come to visit. Besides entering the caves, they can also buy souvenirs."

Meanwhile, Mohd Amzari, president of the Lenggong District Council, noted a significant increase in tourism. He stated, "Based on data from local tourism operators, about 22,000 tourists were recorded staying in Lenggong in 2022, before jumping to 154,000 people in 2024. So that is a huge number of visitors here and until October 2025, we have a figure of about 156,000 staying in Lenggong for this year."

This influx of visitors, he explained, is expected to have a positive economic impact on the Lenggong area, further empowering the community with Think City's support. The community has recognized the potential for income generation from the geopark and the World Heritage Site itself.
