Labuan-Menumbok Sea Transport MOU To Improve Efficiency, Safety

Kuala lumpur: LDA Labuan (Holdings) Sdn Bhd (LDAH), the operator of the Labuan International Ferry Terminal (LIFT), and the Menumbok Speedboat Operators Association (PPBLM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan sea transport system. The MoU, under the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan Sea Transport Synergy Initiative, is aimed at improving operational coordination and strengthening the sea transport ecosystem for the direct benefit of users, particularly Labuan and Sabah residents.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Lo Su Fui witnessed the signing at the Labuan International Ferry Terminal. 'The government is committed to ensuring that this cooperation will improve the operational efficiency of sea transport services and the quality of service delivery to users,' he stated.

The collaboration will enhance sea connectivity between Labuan and Menumbok, Sabah, especially for daily commuters, traders, and logistics users, and is expected to optimise the use of existing infrastructure and support smoother mobility and economic growth between Labuan and Menumbok. The initiative was developed following strategic engagement sessions under the Labuan Industry Taskforce (LITF), a coordination platform that addresses industry-related issues and facilitates integrated solutions involving relevant agencies and industry players.

Through the initiative, several key areas have been identified, including the coordination of operations and logistics facilities, improvement of operational mechanisms such as 'disembarkment' issues, optimisation of travel schedules, and the potential expansion of speedboat services.
