JOHOR BAHRU: Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) or KWAP is identifying potential land as Wakaf Land Development to build independent retirement homes for low-income public sector pensioners. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that this initiative would be conducted in collaboration with each state Islamic Religious Council, the Department of Wakaf, Zakat and Haji (JAWHAR), and Yayasan Wakaf Malaysia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, KWAP has been actively engaging with stakeholders to explore and identify lands suitable for developing independent retirement homes. This initiative aims to optimize the use of existing wakaf lands nationwide, thereby providing a sustainable solution for housing low-income public sector pensioners. The announcement was made during the MyPesara Carnival launching ceremony at Angsana Mall Johor Bahru, where Anwar’s speech was delivered by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. The event was also attended by KWAP Chief Executive Officer Datuk Nik Am
lizan Mohamed and KWAP Chief Investment Officer Hazman Hilmi Sallahuddin.

Anwar expressed confidence in the strategic cooperation among the involved agencies, which he believes will ensure the successful implementation of the project. This initiative is expected to bolster the social and economic security of senior citizens. He emphasized that KWAP’s responsibility extends beyond managing government pension payments, as it also includes ensuring that retirees and prospective retirees can lead more sustainable and productive lives post-retirement.

The initiative aligns with the announcement made during the tabling of Budget 2025 on October 18, where Anwar revealed that KWAP would allocate RM300 million for the development of wakaf land to construct retirement homes for low-income retirees.
