Kuching City FC Secure Historic ACL2 Spot with Super League Runner-Up Finish

Kuching: Kuching City FC finished the 2026 Super League as runners-up after defeating Kuala Lumpur City FC 1-0 in the final league match at the State Stadium here, tonight. The victory saw The Cats collect 53 points from 16 wins and five draws, thus making history by qualifying for the 2026/2027 Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2) stage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, thousands of The Cats fans who filled the State Stadium also cheered to celebrate the proud success, which ended a 10-year wait to see the team compete again on the Asian stage. In tonight's match, the home team scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute through a shot by Jerome Mpacko Etame after taking advantage of an opportunity in front of the opponent's goal.

On entering the second half, Kuala Lumpur City FC doubled their pressure to chase an equalizer, but Kuching City FC's solid defence managed to thwart every attempt by the visitors as the score remained 1-0 until the final whistle.

In Petaling Jaya, Selangor FC had a goals galore when they thrashed PDRM FC 6-0 at Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium tonight. The Red Giants' goal feast began as early as the eighth minute through Muhammad Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi. Selangor import player, Alvin Fortes then managed to score two goals, in the 27th and 29th minutes before Mukhairi extended the goal gap in the final minute of the first half for the hosts to comfortably lead 4-0.

Entering the second half, Selangor continued to add to PDRM's suffering when Muhammad Alif Izwan Yuslan scored the hosts' fifth goal in the 53rd minute. Mukhairi Ajmal scored a hat-trick in the 89th minute as Selangor FC closed out this season's Super League with a 6-0 victory. However, the victory was not enough to qualify Selangor FC for the final as they finished the season in third place, just one point behind second-placed Kuching City FC.
