KPKM and MOF Resolve BUDI95 Implementation for Padi Farmers

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) have successfully resolved the implementation issues surrounding the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative for padi farmers and the wider agricultural community. Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu addressed concerns regarding allegations that farmers either had not received the subsidy or found the provided amount insufficient.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Minister acknowledged the complaints related to the BUDI95 issue and assured that the Ministry’s secretary-general is actively coordinating these grievances. Discussions with MOF have led to a decision that will be disclosed later. This assurance was given at the launch of the Empowerment of the Agricultural Sector in Kampung Guar Petai.

Media reports had earlier suggested that the BUDI95 initiative, a targeted subsidy for RON95 petrol, might not adequately address the real-life needs of padi farmers. Concerns were initially raised by Kota Siputeh assemblyman Mohd Ashraf Mustaqim Badrul Munir, who highlighted that while BUDI95 aims to benefit vehicle owners, it falls short for farmers dependent on fuel for their operations.

Mohd Ashraf, in his role as coordinator of the Movement Against the Oppression of Farmers (Gempita), proposed that padi farmers be provided with a dedicated petrol card. This card would ensure direct and targeted access to fuel subsidies based on their specific needs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced the BUDI95 initiative, stating that all Malaysian citizens will enjoy a subsidised price of RM1.99 per litre for RON95 petrol, reduced from RM2.05, effective September 30. For non-citizens, the price will be RM2.60 from the same date.
