KPDN Pahang Busts Illegal LPG Storage, Goods Worth Over RM400,000 Seized

Bentong: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Pahang seized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), LPG cylinders, and various other items worth more than RM400,000 in Bentong yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Pahang KPDN director Jezlily Jamaluddin said the seizure was carried out under Ops Tiris 4.0 operation following two weeks of intelligence gathering and public tip-offs regarding a fenced area believed to be used as an LPG storage site.

'During the inspection, enforcement officers discovered a large quantity of LPG stored in a semi-trailer lorry. Further checks uncovered 829 LPG cylinders of various capacities at the location,' she said in a statement today.

She said preliminary investigations revealed that the premise did not have a licence or valid approval from the Controller of Supplies to store scheduled controlled goods as stipulated under the law.

KPDN also seized related documents, a lorry with a semi-trailer, and other items believed to be linked to the case for further investigation, with the total value estimated at RM405,338.

The case is being investigated under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122) for allegedly storing scheduled controlled goods at an unlicensed premise or without valid approval from the Controller of Supplies.

Jezlily said Pahang KPDN strongly warns all parties against any involvement in illegal storage, distribution, or transactions involving scheduled controlled goods.

'Any person who commits an offence may be prosecuted under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. For corporate offenders, fines of up to RM2 million may be imposed for a first offence and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences.

'As for individuals, penalties include a fine of up to RM1 million, imprisonment of not more than two years, or both for a first offence, and for subsequent offences, a fine of up to RM3 million, imprisonment of up to five years, or both,' she said.

She added that enforcement efforts will continue to be intensified to ensure the supply of controlled goods in the state remains secure and is not misappropriated by irresponsible parties.
