Kuala Lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur Tower, which is temporarily closed from today for maintenance works and to resolve safety issues, will be reopened as soon as possible. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the telecommunications tower would be promptly opened to visitors after the two key aspects are resolved by the new concessionaire, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd (LSHSM).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, emphasized the need for the new concessionaire to have adequate time to conduct the necessary work thoroughly to ensure visitor safety. He addressed this issue at the weekly media conference at Angkasapuri, which was also attended by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching and Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.
Fahmi revealed that a recent ministry visit to the KL Tower uncovered numerous issues, including kitchen utensils at the revolving restaurant not being in proper condition for visitors. Additionally, there were concerning safety aspects, such as the railing at the deck being lowered, which required immediate attention.
In relation to the 205 staff from the previous concessionaire, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB), Fahmi noted that 193 of them had accepted job offers from LSHSM. He explained that the staff’s service with MKLSB ended on March 31, coinciding with the first day of Hari Raya, following a notice of termination issued on December 18 last year. The ministry urged LSHSM to retain all these experienced workers, ensuring their salaries are no less favorable than those offered by the previous company.
The Communications Ministry had previously announced that the KL Tower would be temporarily closed starting today for visitor safety and comfort, allowing the new management to undertake maintenance and improvements.
