Negeri sembilan: The Malaysian Football League (MFL) have awarded Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) a 3-0 win and three points after Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC failed to field a complete squad for their Super League clash at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi on Saturday (Aug 22).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the governing body of the Malaysia League (M-League) stated that KL City were also fined RM50,000 and ordered to pay compensation and related costs as determined by the MFL. The decision came after a special MFL Board of Directors meeting reviewed all relevant documents, reports, and information, including a medical report from a government hospital dated Aug 24 presented by KL City.
The MFL found that KL City failed to sort out their player registration matters in advance, leading to their inability to field a complete squad against NSFC. A check of the MyPAS system on the match day revealed that KL City FC registered only 12 players, comprising 11 outfield players and one goalkeeper, violating Article 4.5.7(i) of the Competitions Regulations, Malaysian League Manual 2026-2027, which mandates a minimum registration of 15 and a maximum of 20 players, including at least two goalkeepers.
Additionally, KL City did not comply with an M-League circular dated June 29, 2026, concerning the registration requirements for the 2026-2027 Super League season, which requires clubs to register at least 20 players, including three goalkeepers, before their first match of the season. The club also breached Article 3.1.3 of the Technical Organisation Regulations, which necessitate submitting a Team Selection List of 20 players and 10 officials on the bench.
The MFL highlighted that the Club Licensing Unit and First Instance Body (FIB) had repeatedly reminded KL City to address fines imposed by FIFA, leading to an International Player Registration Ban, but the club failed to resolve the issue proactively. The match's cancellation followed KL City's application to the MFL at 12.40 pm on the match day, citing an influenza outbreak affecting 13 players and two officials. Consequently, the MFL informed all clubs that the match could not proceed.
NSFC subsequently submitted a protest letter to the MFL, urging a comprehensive review and decision based on the M-League competition regulations.
