KESUMA Advocates for Flexible Implementation of Additional Aidilfitri Leave

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) encourages employers to provide flexibility to employees regarding the implementation of the additional leave announced in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, KESUMA welcomes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement on the additional holiday as a gesture of appreciation to Malaysians. The ministry emphasized that the additional holiday aligns with the Holidays Act 1951 [Act 369], empowering the government to declare public holidays.

The statement clarified that the declared holiday is applicable to private sector employees, adhering to Section 60D of the Employment Act 1955 [Act 265]. Employers have the option to substitute the public holiday with another day as a paid replacement holiday, provided they inform employees about the arrangement.

KESUMA highlighted that if employees are obliged to work on the declared public holiday, they are entitled to receive public holiday pay rates as stipulated under the Employment Act 1955. The ministry urged employers to consider leave flexibility as a means to promote work-life balance, enhancing the well-being and harmony of employees during Aidilfitri celebrations.

By granting such flexibility, KESUMA believes it supports the MADANI government's efforts to foster a more inclusive and humane working environment. Employers and employees are encouraged to engage in constructive dialogue to ensure seamless company operations while allowing employees to enjoy Aidilfitri with their families.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister announced an additional day of leave for this year's Aidilfitri celebration, acknowledging the hard work of Malaysians throughout Ramadan. The specific date for the additional holiday will hinge on the official declaration of Syawal 1. Should Hari Raya Aidilfitri fall on Friday (March 20), the government will designate Monday (March 23) as the additional holiday.
