Kota bharu: The crime index in Kelantan recorded a 7.6% decrease for the period from January to June this year, with 891 cases compared to 964 cases in the same period last year. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that the reduction of 73 cases demonstrates that the strategies, commitment, and continuous actions implemented by the Kelantan police contingent are on the right track.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, violent crime decreased from 246 cases to 202 cases, marking a reduction of 44 cases or 17.9%. Despite this decline, Mohd Yusoff emphasized that it should not lead to complacency but rather serve as a catalyst to enhance efforts to ensure the safety, well-being, and confidence of the community towards the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police).

Mohd Yusoff, speaking at a press conference after the Kelantan contingent police headquarters' monthly assembly, also highlighted a decrease in drug-related crimes by 13% to 12,051 cases, compared to 13,957 cases last year. The arrest of drug offenders decreased by 10% to 13,182 people from 14,640 people. However, the value of drug seizures increased by 17% to RM15.7 million compared to RM13.37 million previously, indicating more effective enforcement actions in curbing drug distribution and smuggling activities.

In addressing illegal racing, the Kelantan police contingent plans to change their approach by holding meetings with the parents of the riders involved. Mohd Yusoff noted that despite regular enforcement operations, summonses, and motorcycle seizures, the activity persists. Operations to crack down on illegal racing are conducted almost weekly in several locations, including the Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai Highway near Chicha. Mohd Yusoff expressed the need to engage with parents to raise awareness, as current measures seem less effective.
